MESSAGE
On the occasion of their 10 th anniversary, I would like to congratulate and commend the Development Action for Women Network (DAWN) for their ongoing good work in promoting the rights and welfare of Filipino women migrants and their families.
In particular, DAWN have been vocal advocates and unstinting supporters of the drive against human trafficking and exploitation - and have worked tirelessly with like-minded NGOs and governments, to ensure that these issues are given the priority and consideration they deserve.
As a nation that has taken a lead in combating people trafficking through a range of regional and international co-operative measures - such as through the Bali Regional Ministerial Conferences on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime - Australia welcomes the ongoing efforts and contributions of organisations such as DAWN.
Not only has DAWN been fighting for international and national improvements in policies and practices for the last ten years, but they have also been actively helping to shape better lives for women and children, through their livelihood and skills development projects.
I wish DAWN all the best for your 10 th anniversary and hope that, through our combined efforts and commitment, we see tangible improvements in the lives of Filipino women and children.
